This is penned tongue in cheek to the Rolling Stones " Dead Flowers" music for those old enough to remember!
For info I'm on 7th Cancer treatment from November 2019
Bowel, Liver, Bowel, Throat, R. Lung, L. Lung and FINALLY CHEST LYMOH NODES. (Apparently the winner).
.
When I'm sitting here
In my Chemotherapy chair
Listening to some sick folk I don't know.
You'll be in a Costa cafe with a bakewell and a latte
Checking if there's discount off Tesco clothes.
--------
Then you're walking fast
With your wristwatch counting app
Trying to reach your target for the day
I'll be in my treatment bay
With the nurses chatting away
Headphones on to keep that noise at bay
---------------
Chorus
Take me down little Annie won't you take me down
I know your the Queen of the discount rounds
You can get discount on your Costa order
Get discount on your Tesco clothes
Hit Primark for your whole beach wardrobe
But don't forget to pick me up at four.
--------------
I'll still be sitting back
With my zipped up grey backpack
Staring at the clock high on the wall
The second hand goes round
And I feel just like a clown
Telling myself it must be really slow
----------------
Repeat Chorus
----------------
Finally your there
I can slide right off that chair
Standing up and putting on my coat
I grab my old rucksak
With the meds and all of that
This was the last treatment that I know
------------------------
I thank the nurses before I go
They're here come rain or snow
Always with a kind word and a smile
They could keep the chatting down
To stop me having a frown
Better headphones needed yes I know
----------------
There is one other person
Who really deserves a mention
Gemma the really Special McMillan nurse
She's always been so kind
To Anne and I we find
Even though she's too many folks to see
-----------------
She always gives us time
And puts it on the line
Good or bad she knows we've got to know
--------------
New Chorus
Take us down lovely Gemma
Won't you take us down
We know your the Queen of the Cancer rounds
Cancer can make you feel just awful
Cancer makes familes feel their worse
Cancer can do its very damdest
But it won't beat Gemma the Very Special Head and Neck nurse.
YEAH WE'VE GOT GEMMA THE VERY SPECIAL HEAD AND NECK NURSE!
THE END.
