Treatment Update Part 3; May 3 - 9 2010

1 minute read time.

This update covers Week 4 of my initial treatment, and also where things are at now.

Week 4
This was planned as a "normal" week i.e. radio each day and chemo on the Wednesday - and everything went to plan! No random operations.....no sudden blood transfusions......nothing. I almost feel like I should apologise!!!

Must admit though, it was good to have a lighter week, especially as tiredness is starting to feature a little more now.

Current state of play
The consultant, when I saw her last Wednesday, said the tumour has shown "good shrinkage" [her words] and she's moving me on to Booster Treatment.

Basically, Booster Treatment is another cycle of chemo, taking me to 5 in all, and 2 more weeks' radio treatment, although now the Drittsekk has shrunk, they'll be able to focus the radio at the source of the cancer and really zap it. The side-effects will be less too as it's on a smaller area of my body.

So it's good news and I'm relieved, but trying not to get too excited because it's still very early days. Yes, we have shrinkage, and yes, there's cause for optimism, but I know I can't get too carried away too soon.

The consultant has signed me off work to the end of June as she says I'll need at least 5 weeks' convalescence after the end of the Booster Treatment. And I don't yet know what tests/scans will be needed during [or at the end of] those 5 weeks. They'll tell me when I need to know - at present my focus is on getting through the next 2 weeks.

Stay strong everyone.
