Pressure

Less than one minute read time.

I am looking after my dad he got diagnosed in nov 09 with bowel cancer, they removed the tumor but there were still cancer cells.....so he started chemo, then got told in march that the cancer had spread to his liver........he is kinda doing ok, had a blood transfusion yesterday because he is now anaemic, this made him feel better.

I am worried that i should be doing more or i am not asking the right questions or being assertive enough. My dad is divorced, so i have been going with him to appointments, arranging the appointments, gettin shopping etc.... but i feel like i should do more?????????? or see if he can be referred to a liver specialist?????? not sure who to ask or how to go about this????

    Hello Fernangel,

I'm not sure there is any "should do "about this disease, but over on the triplets thread in the bowel cancer forum there are lots of people who are caring for patients and you will find lots of support there. I have bowel cancer, diagnosed in Nov 08 but I had liver and lung mets on diagnosis so I have had a liver and bowel op together. Is your dad on chemo?

His oncologist should tell you whether the liver is operable or find someone who can. Did he/she not do this? I think you are doing a lot for your dad and really supporting him. You need support too, come over to the trips thread and I am sure you will find it.

    Best wishes Jen XX

thanks just saw your reply now, sadly dad lost his battle last saturday 01/05/10.....

i think his oncologist was rubbish to be honest and it wasnt that easy to access info because if you dont know whats available and ask they dont tell you......his oncologist   kinda pushed him into a trial but because he had to go to a different hosp to much time got wasted so he wasnt ale to recieve any treatment in the end.......

thank you so much for your reply..x
