Painful Mammogram

Less than one minute read time.

Hi Ladies, sorry if this appears twice but not sure if I have posted correctly. I had DCIS breast cancer in 2014, follow up mammogram year later which was relatively uneventful but have just had my 2nd year check up and the mammogram on my operated breast was so painful I am worried that this is because the cancer has returned. The "healthy" breast was fine but my other was excrutiatingly painful and I was at a point nearly telling her to stop it was that bad. It has definitely put me off mammograms if this is due solely to insensitive handling. Do others have problems with pain? I didn't actually have a lump when diagnosed just painful breasts so am obviously worried the cancer has returned in that breast. Any help or advice ladies Would welcome any ideas. Will obviously be worried until I get the results . Waiting for results is often the worse part. Thanks ladies.

Thanks Pat@65

    Hi Pat

I'm sorry to hear about your painful experience and how fearful you are feeling. I can't say I have found mammograms to be anything other than moderately uncomfortable.

Excuse me if you already know this, but I wonder whether you might post your query in the Breast Cancer group (click on the highlighted words to go straight to the group)  where there are lots of lovely women with loads of experience to share. If you prefer to talk, the Macmillan helpline is always available and you can talk this through with one of the nurses.

    Wishing you all the best
