Hi All
I have been reading a lot about the benefits of fasting during chemotherapy. Particularly the studies being carried out by Dr. Valter Longo in America.
My Mum has had a tumour removed from her colon and is starting chemotherapy in 6 days time. She will be having 5FU plus oxaliplatin via a PICC every 14 days for 6 months (12 treatments). It will be administered over a 48hr period.
The information that I have gathered from several sources suggests 72hrs fast before chemotherapy and 24hrs afterwards. What I am struggling to find-out is whether you continue the fast throughout the administration period i.e. 72hrs prior, 48hrs during, 24 hours after. This would mean 6 continuous full days of fasting every 14 days. This would be unsustainable for my Mum.
We think she could manage 72hrs prior plus 24hrs afterwards.
Does anybody have any information about whether you need to fast during chemotherapy administration or not?
Thanks
