The Influence Of Appendages & Attire......

1 minute read time.

Worried and fearful as to what the meeting with the Consultant would bring and after tossing and turning for what seemed an eternity,my wife eventually got up around 3am and spent the pre-dawn hours watching the hands of the clock as they relentlessy but so slowly made their repeating journey around the dial.

Tick by tick by tick.

Luckily I slept soundly and knew none of this until I made by way downstairs, refreshed and ready for the day's events, several hours later!

Shortly after the appointed time we were shown into the consultant's room where I was pleased to hear that the crossing of numerous appendages and the offering of best wishes by the good people on the Mac site [combined in no small part by the power of being properly dressed by my good lady] had helped to contain my cancer within the prostate!! Yes!!!

Despite always hoping for that announcement to say that it is a considerable relief when you are actually given it,is something of an understatement!

With shoulders no longer slouched and with chin now raised from chest I asked what would happen next.

The Main Man asked to feel around my lower abdomen to ascertain the probable amount of scar tissue that had resulted from my previous operation a decade ago.

His opinion was that Brachytherapy was not an option because of the scar tissue and that the choice for me would be either the complete removal of the gland by surgery or the course of Radiotherapy to destroy the cancer cells within the prostate.

He opined that whilst the performing of a Prostatectomy was perfectly feasible the surgeon might encounter some difficulties and or problems in getting to the prostate because of the degree of scar tissue et al that might be found after entry.

To avoid any uneccessary problems I opted for the course of Hormone Treatment by way of pills and injection over 3 months followed thereafter by a couple of months worth of radiotherapy. The follow up hormone treatment after my radiotherapy would then possibly be for a further two years or so.

So a very good day really with the slight downside that the hormone treatment could make me unliveable with for at least one week in any four!

    Hi reaperfighter,

I am so pleased for you, as you say the dress code and crossed appendages must have done the trick I'll keep it in mind :)

As for the mood swings If us women can cope .... ;)

    All the best

Excellent news!  Obviously yours is a well behaved and well brought up cancer that respects the efforts made on your behalf.  Your wife must be so pleased that her choice of outfit won the day.

I on the other hand, would like to know if it's safe for me to uncross my legs!  Never mind that typing with fingers crossed makes life very difficult, doing most things with your legs crossed causes no end of problems.  Some of them messy!

Seriously though, I'm really chuffed for you!

    Love, Ann x

Whoooo hoooo! What a day, well that was good news to come back to....  I survived my flight and you got a reasonably well behaved cancer... good job my brother was driving back from the airport with me sitting with my eyes crossed for you....

I can hear my mum now saying... I told you so... being well dressed does make a difference... see? should have listened to me...etc etc She was with your wife on that one and I let her down on every occasion... hmm and look what happened eh?  Think I might dig out a power suit for my appointment now and I expect reciprocal crossings, radiotherapy or not!!

Good luck with all the treatment......but in the meantime, hope you are going to celebrate having an aggrophobic cancer... and let us know which week to duck. We even eachother out now cos I don't have those weeks anymore after being fried in certain areas so the world is balanced again. phew.....

    Hi Helen

''As for the mood swings If us women can cope .... ;)''

LOL-I've never  before seen 'mood swings'' 'women' and 'cope' linked together like that!!--did you forget to add 'not' onto 'can'?

Yep it was def. the appendages thing and the dress code that made the difference--advice well worth bearing in mind and passing onto others!

    Hi SL

Thanks for appreciating the strict upbringing that my cancer has had and the efforts that my wife made not only in the choice of vestments but also for taking on the worry and anxiety for the two of us.

In order for others to receive the full benefit It would be appreciated if you could keep those legs crossed for just a little while longer if you could.

    Hi LM

We all had a mum who chided us with those pearls-'I told you so', 'I knew it',  'I could see that coming', 'You think you know it all', and of course the daddy of them all 'You'll be sorry one day...'

I think that reciprocal crossings are a given now and should be encouraged site wide-perhaps a cross appendaged smiley complete with crossed eyes could be made available for inclusion into well wisher's posts?

Good to hear that you survived the flight and am assuming that you also survived being caught by Customs when bringing in that settee, car and mutant fly?

    PS-Extra 'x' appreciated.
