What's next?

Less than one minute read time.
Our 82 year old mother has declined surgery and chemotherapy. She just wants to go home to be with Jesus with as little pain as possible. She was told she had stage 3c, liver spots, lung fluid but stage 4 would not be declared without surgery. She's not a good candidate for surgery because of other health problems. We are trying to get a time frame of how much time she may have left so all the family can visit. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Hi Euwar,

I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. I think the only people who can answer your questions are the medical professionals and even they won't be able to give precise predictions. Do talk to her doctor or the McMillan nurses.

    With all good wishes,

That's sad news but I think you should respect your mum's wishes. Maybe she thinks she's too old to be facing surgery and all the hassle that goes with it. Old people get tired. Some of them can't be bothered to fight for life any more and I think it would be cruel to argue. I think the Macmillan nurses are your best option now. Or maybe consider a few days in a hospice to see how she likes it?

Your mum obviously takes great comfort from her faith so regular visits from the priest or vicar would be nice.

    Best wishes, Shelagh

Hi there - and I'm so sorry to hear the news of your dear Mum. With regards to trying to get a time frame on how much time your Mum may have left, the best people to speak with would be the doctors and MacMillan nurses. I know it's one of the hardest things in the world; letting go of your Mum's hand, but maybe it would be best to respect her wishes at this time and let her go home to be with Jesus. God bless all of you at this heartbreaking time, with love    kate xxxxxx
