Summer Cold - how petty

Less than one minute read time.
Hi everyone - why do i feel so grotty when suffering from a minor summer headcold. I can deal with the cancer and pain etc it brings but a petty cold and i am useless snuggled up in bed all day yesterday and now feeling so so today - have slept too much but tired and now cannot sleep. Hopefully my mcmillan nurse will ring today to start the journey of organising how to help with my life and family. I can then get focused on more important matters.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean.  If you can face it, wrap up warmly with a really waterproof mac and take a short walk to blow the cobwebs away.

Then come back and have a lovely bath with all the trimmings.  Spend the rest of the day doing your face, your nails and your hair.  Wear something you love, read a fresh library book and then after a delicious dinner, go back to bed.

You need to spoil yourself a little.  The cold will go away, so you can do the hard and difficult things then.  Today is yours.  Make the most of it.

    love

    Ruth

I know that it's very very hard when we are just getting palliative care, to get yet another illness piled on top.  What to someone else is a minor inconvenience, something to carry on as normal with - and cough their germs around without a handkerchief in between - really gets us down.  My lymph nodes are also affected, and of course all of us in that position are less able to shrug off any illnesses wafted our way. I suspect you may feel like me, that anything that confines you to bed is robbing you of precious time.

Glad you have a MacMillan nurse coming to organise everything.  I don't have one at the moment as she changed jobs and they haven't replaced her yet.  They make a big difference, don't they?

Here's hoping you are getting over that cold soon (I try to scoot out of the way whenever I see someone sneezing and coughing, but travelling on public transport, the germs are everywhere!), and as Ruthless says, getting a bit of extra pampering.

I admire your three year goals to see the little ones reach milestones.  Keep going - small steps, forwards, and look after yourself.  Lots and lots of love xxxx Penny

Everything else aside, why do summer colds always feel worse than the normal winter ones you expect to catch!!  It might not be the hot dry weather we are learning to expect in August, but it's just not the right time of year to be coughing and spluttering.  Pamper yourself, wallow in a day's self pity - and remember, 7 days if you treat it with drugs, a week if you don't!!  Lots of love, Kate xxx

Hi Texasrose - there is nothing worse than a summer cold. NOTHINHG! It jiggles us up all inside and messes with our little machines in there who work hard to keep us going; tick, tock. tick, tock. It's always the little things sweetheart which seem to take the most out of us. What does it matter if you sleep too much? When you are feeling more like yourself again, you'll be FULL of the joys of whatever. THEN you will use up extra energy - so it;s best that you have some in reserve. Spoil yourself sweetheart, and I hope for your speedy recovery. with love (soft hugs) and xxxxxxxxxxxx's kate
