Intravenious chemotherapy -v- tablet form?

Less than one minute read time.
Anybody know anything about chemo for bowel cancer. Should have started intravenious therapy this week but has been stopped because I have a history of blood clotting. Now they suggest tablet form. Any experience/advice anyone? Cheers elizabetta xxxxxxxxx

I have just finished my second session of chemotherapy for bowel cancer.  The first was from september 2006 to February 2007 and was intravenous using oxeliplatin(?) and 5FU.  Administered through a hickman line.  Predictable side effects but not too bad.  Second session began in September 2007 and I finished the complete course in February this year.  Capecitabine in tablet form.  Administered daily for two weeks and one week 'rest' for six cycles.  I experienced few side effects mainly tiredness.  I was given information about individual drugs before chemotherapy started which originated from the Cancerbackup site so that could be a first port of call to begin any research.  Best wishes.

Hi my dad has bowel cancer and he currently is taking the tablet form which havent really affected him too much bar occasional sickness which he nips for a nap and the anti-sickness drugs are very effective. The one suggestion I will make is buy a 7 day morning noon and night pill box as its easy to forget if you have taken them (well for my dad it is anyway lol)  and dont let anyone else bar you touch them hes on capectine (i know ive spelt it wrong) the 500ml and the 150ml (read his blog drewcotgrave the demise of roland ratso) if you ever need a giggle.

    Wishing you all the best
