Big Day Tomorrow

Less than one minute read time.

My mum's first consultation with an oncologist that specializes in her kind of cancer is tomorrow. Mum has a rare cancer called Pseudomyxoma peritonei so rare in fact that your chances of getting it are 1 in 1,000,000. Problem is because its so rare there are only 2 hospitals in the UK that can deal with mum one in Manchester and one in Basingstoke so our closest is Basingstoke about 55 miles away. She wants me to go with her and its silly but I am catching myself trying to gain power over something I really have no power over. Her cancer caught me off guard as it does anyone and I found myself listing hundreds of questions to ask the oncologist tomorrow, as if the answers to these will somehow help me control this situation. I doubt I'll sleep tonight my heart is pounding in my throat but my bag is packed notepad and pen included. Tomorrow is the day some stranger will tell me how long I'm allowed to keep my mum for.

    Hi Elise,

My thoughts are with your Mum and you tonight. Nobody has any power over Cancer and what the future holds. Ask the questions that are going to

give both you and your Mum peace of mind, make sure the Oncologist gives you an answer to every question that you ask. There maybe some that he cant. All I can say is that the people on this site are

wishing you both All the best for tomorrow. Please

    stay in touch.

Take care and be safe Big Hugs Love Sarsfield.xxx

quite often specialists cant say how long people have left...

what happens to one of us might be so different to someone else...even with the same cancer ..

in over two years of chemo units and hospitals iv only met a handfull who were told " how long " maybe in the area i live in its something the specialists dont like to guess at unless its a really bad case..

hoping everything will go as good as possible  later today..

if your mum hasnt got a mac nurse tell her gp she wants one....i never took in most of what specialists told me or asked many questions....a mac nurse can find out answers to questions you may forget to ask..or any questions you may have at a later date..

    all the best...

Hoping you get some answers to your many questions. I wish I had been given the opportunity to talk to my step-dad's consultant. At least you'll know what you're dealing with. All the best, Val X

Hi Elise- this is a new one to me & being inquistivie I googled it and found a good link to some survivors diary of his prognosis etc with this cancer. Basingstoke is the hospital involved as well.

I think you already have gained some power over this as you are ready prepared with questions - what you know about gives you something to base your fight on (hope that makes sense), but do stay on this site for support.

All the best to you both, Jewels x
