16) 5 days post 2nd Paclitaxel

1 minute read time.

5 days in and I’m feeling ok.  My toes are a little painful at times but not numb & my fingers are ok.  I have found that Paclitaxel is also making me a little light headed on occasion which I don’t like.  That seems to have subsided a little today so hopefully I will be ok for the rest of this cycle.

I really enjoyed Christmas Day which I didn’t think I would (I was afraid that I would keep comparing it to my pre diagnosis christmases). We had a really quiet family day which was really nice.

I am due to finish chemo mid January so really hope nothing derails this plan - my blood count was a bit lower last time so hopefully that will have resolved itself by the next check. I am eating lots of red blood count friendly fruit & veg to hopefully boost this.

I have been trying to get used to my wig in preparation for re entry to some sort of a normal life but I still don’t feel very confident in it. I keep thinking it will slide off even though it seems fairly secure.  I  ordered a wig grip band which will hopefully help me feel a little more confident wearing it.  I haven’t lost my eyebrows or eyelashes yet but I read they can fall out even when chemo finishes - I really hope I can cling onto mine but will cross that bridge if it happens!

  • I’ve been trying all sorts of head coverings myself after getting my granddaughter to shave it all off and like you I hope I can keep my eyebrows and lashes. I have a wig which in style is similar to how my hair usually is but it needs styling as there seems to be far too much hair on the wigs I have. Is yours real hair, mine are synthetic but quite adequate. I am going for my 3rd dose next week and although I still have some of the side effects they have not been so bad as after the first dose. Not sure whether that’s good or bad, will have to see. Well here’s wishing us both every confidence what life throws at us. Take care.

  • Hi there Klein, glad your side effects aren’t too bad & hope that continues for you. Have you been wearing your wig - there does seem like s lot of hair on mine too but I got a wig brush & managed to tame it a bit! I haven’t been wearing mine up to now really as I was too scared of it slipping so I got a wig band which arrived today. It seems really good so far. I’ve been wearing the wig for about 3 hours today as a trial run & I actually forgot that I’m wearing it which is great!

My wig is also synthetic - I have to say I felt a bit gippy at the thought of wearing actual human hair so did not contemplate getting a real hair one! Mine is pretty much like my own hair too so I think I will be happy with it but need to get more used to wearing it around the house before I chance going outside - other than to put the bins out :)

Good luck with the rest of your treatment - I hope it goes well xx
