15) 2nd Paclitaxel

Less than one minute read time.

I had my second paclitaxel yesterday and so far so good.  I mentioned my sore fingers & toes at my review with Dr the day before cycle 2  (my toes started to feel a little numb towards the find of the first cycle) and she arranged for the dose to be reduced.

She confirmed that it is peripheral neuropathy and the dose reduction will hopefully prevent it getting worse. It isn’t too bad at the moment & I don’t have it every day.  I am frightened of it getting worse or being permanent which is why I mentioned it. I was also quite lightheaded at the end of my last cycle but this thankfully only lasted a day.

I may also need a transfusion as my red blood count is lower than it was - this is also a chemo induced problem!  This will be reviewed before my next cycle.  I hope I don’t need it & treatment can continue as I am desperate cross the finish line now -  two more to go!  Trying to improve blood count count by eating  mangoes, beans, lentils & spinach :)

  • Same for me though after 2nd cycle the peripheral neuropathy wasn’t so bad. I am trying to keep as mobile as possible with gentle exercises for both hands and feet.  I find the nausea and soreness of mouth/tongue to be very taxing though have tablets and mouth washes to help. Take care and happy Christmas and a healthy 2023 wished for all.

  • I hope the mouth washes work for you - I have been lucky in that I haven’t had a sore mouth (yet) but have mouth wash on standby if that gets to be a problem.

It’s strange how these chemo drugs affect people in different ways.  Good luck with the rest of your treatment xxx
