Mum with lung cancer

Less than one minute read time.
When my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer in December it was a major shock, she has never smoked in her life and it was surprising to find out that it was other peoples smoke when she didn't go to pubs and clubs in the past either. It was just from working and visiting friends I guess, but that doesn't make it any easier to live with. After various x-rays, ct-scans and then a biopsy, she was finally taken into Harefield in February to have a tumour removed from her right lung and although the operation went well they could not get everything out, the cancer had started to spread to the lining of her lung. They allowed her a short time to recover from her operation and started chemotherapy in May.

I had an upper right lobectomy due to lung cancer, the surgeon recommended chemo follow up, but oncologist reckoned it was'nt worth it so I did'nt go ahead with it. 13 months on I am still here, the prognosis was 58/42% chance of 5years or more life expectancy. I smoked and was totally ashamed, thinking that I had brought it on myself. I asked my chest specialist if smoking was the reason I had developed cancer and all she said was "well it would'nt have helped matters much". During the investigations I was asked more questions about employment history and asbestos etc. than my smoking habits. It makes you think.
