Hi my name is Donna and I'm running the Brighton Marathon on 18th April in aid of Macmillan. My just giving page is www.justgiving.com/donna-shayler.
THe reason I'm running is due to my friend and colleague, Tracey, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in November. I felt inspired to support her and raise awareness of her bravery, plight and determination. I also wanted to do something that was 'running' the same time as Tracey was having her treatment. Hopefully she will be there at the finish line.
I've run a marathon before, but I ran because I wanted to do 'something'. This time I want to run a marathon and run it well, so have a different mentality, and the Rocky Soundtrack is the best running material you could possibly want. I have a 12 week plan (it was 16 but the weather buggered that up) so the intensity is a lot harder - 10 miles by end of January, so so far going well. I run with one of my dogs, Solo. He is a big black and tan German Shepherd with a tendancy to go on Cat watch as soon as he leaves the gate. Unfortunately on Wednesday cat watch paid off and I ended up in a heap on the pavement with a very bloody knee - so much for safety with a dog eh!
Anyway this is my first blog. I hope you want to read it and feel inspired to sponsor me. I want to run under 5 hours but it is likely to be 5.5 I think.
More updates after an 8 miler tomorrow.
