The panda slippers.

1 minute read time.

When I started this blog I thought I'd be struggling to find things to do each day to distract myself with.  However it's not turned out like that at all.  Firstly there were the practical things to sort out.  Then we started decluttering the house and we've only just finished that.  Every storage box has now been opened and labelled. There was one very unexpected surprise.  I opened what I thought were a box of financial papers, only to find a pair of ankle boots, and a pair of panda slippers.

The ankle boots are about 20 years old.  They still have plenty of wear in them and I was rather annoyed because I've only very recently bought a similar pair to wear this winter.  I have no memory of putting them into storage, all I can think is that I put them away one summer and forgot about them.  I do remember the slippers.  I spotted them in a gift shop window, again around 20 years ago.  I didn't realise they were slippers, all I saw were two adorable little furry panda faces staring at me.  I was instantly in love.

Unfortunately they were the only pair left and they were a size too small for me.  H was with me at the time and he kept telling me they wouldn't fit.  I somehow persuaded him that they would, and eventually H relented and bought them for me.  We got them home and of course they were too small, it was impossible to safely walk in them.  I remember H offering to take them back for a refund, and I remember me saying don't worry I'll do it myself.  I don't actually recall hiding the slippers, but I suspect I couldn't bear to part with them.

I think I must have got better at problem solving over the last 20 years as the solution is now obvious to me.  Use the slippers to keep my feet warm when I'm sitting at my desk, but don't try to walk anywhere in them.  All I have to do now is to confess to H.
