H tells me he's had a text this morning saying he has a phone appointment this afternoon to do his pre-op assessment. He's very pleased as he thinks it will save another hospital trip. I'm a bit baffled by this. It's 12 years now since I've had one of those pre op things but I'm pretty sure that it involved procedures like blood tests, blood pressure, ECG and being weighed. If so I can't quite see how this will get done by phone. I tell him let's just wait and see what they say when they ring.
Turns out I was right. The call this afternoon was just for a detailed medical history questionnaire. There will be another call tomorrow afternoon from someone in Urology for more questions. Then Wednesday morning will be the visit to the hospital.
One good thing about me being a previous cancer patient is that I can usually answer practical questions. H is going to a different hospital for the assessment and he is wondering where the pre op department is. My treatment in 2013 took place over 5 different hospitals and I still have all the site maps I printed off at the time. I hand over the relevant map. I must have had a pre-op done myself there as the department has been marked in pink highlighter pen.
