Husband's MRI scan today

1 minute read time.

H went for his MRI scan this afternoon.  It was our 5th trip to the local community diagnostic centre.  The last 4 were for me, now it was H's turn.  I sat in the waiting room and read a book.  He was in there just over an hour.  We're both so grateful for this diagnostic centre.  It only opened last year.  Before that it was a 40 mile round trip to the nearest hospital scanner.

I'd been able to tell H quite a bit about the MRI scan as it wasn't that long ago that I had mine done.  We'd carefully dressed him without any metal, or so we thought.  Unfortunately neither of us had spotted the little bit of metal trim at the ends of the cord in his jogging bottoms.  So, like me, he had to get undressed and use the key code locker.

I think H was OK in the scanner from what he said.  I'd warned him it was noisy, but I think it was louder than he expected.  He got to see the panda film that I saw.  Unfortunately he doesn't share my enthusiasm for pandas, so I think he was very bored as it's only a short film on a loop.  I'd been worried about him as I suspected he'd need a cannula for contrast and he has a thing about needles.  He said that was the worst bit for him, but it was OK.  So now we wait a couple of weeks for the scan report to be done and sent to the Urology Department at the hospital.

I have an appointment on Wednesday to meet the Consultant Surgeon at the Birmingham Sarcoma Service.  I spent the morning getting my hospital transport arranged, which was a challenge as I'm travelling between two different NHS regions.  One good thing about having been a cancer patient back in 2013 is that I have a pretty good idea about how all the various systems work.
