When I was being diagnosed with cancer in 2013 I had to travel at least 20 miles to go to a hospital with a CT scanner. One major improvement since then is that we now have a local community diagnostic centre. It's less than 2 miles from my home and it was a stress free visit there for my CT scan this afternoon. Plenty of free parking outside, no queue to check in, and only one patient at a time in the CT suite.
So there I sat in a big comfy armchair to get the cannula put in, and I had the same nurse looking after me throughout. I've had a few CT scans before so I was fine with the procedure and they were very pleased with me for lying so still, that's years of yoga practice. Then back to the armchair for a rest and a drink before the cannula came out. Less than half an hour from start to finish for the scan, and then 7 minutes to drive home.
After the 7 recent visits to MaxFac, which is a 90 mile round trip, this was absolute bliss.
