Later on Tuesday my phone rings and I see it's the hospital. Consultant says they wouldn't normally do this over the phone but they have decided that in my case it's the best thing to do. Checks I am sitting down and is husband with me. Her words come as a complete shock. She admits yes they have been quietly fast tracking me. There are still cancer possibilities but that needs more investigation. But what they have been suspecting all along, and was just confirmed by the last scan results, is that I have been diagnosed with chronic ORN. I am to come up to the hospital tomorrow to discuss it further.
So yesterday we are back at the hospital for the third time in four days. Meet some of the MDT who will be looking after me. They are all very kind and understanding. This is a summary of what was said.
A definite diagnosis of ORN. No obvious signs of cancer yet, but there are two areas of suspicion and further investigations will be taking place. They will get me an urgent appointment with an ENT Specialist who will do tests on the base of my tongue. There will be a jawbone biopsy on Sept 30th whilst they are removing the infected teeth. So there will be no full diagnosis or treatment plan until early October at the earliest.
So it's either just ORN, or possibly it's cancer and ORN. Either way I can expect months of treatment which could potentially end up with jawbone reconstruction.
The horrible wait begins.
