It was all going so well. Felt fine yesterday, mouth now fully healed from the emergency gum incision 2 weeks ago, swelling right down. Woke up this morning to find the lump on my gums had doubled in size overnight. Pins and needles all down the left side of my face, numb lips, eye pain, trouble opening mouth and swallowing.
Phoned MaxFac at 9am. Doctor called back and said he'd speak to my MDT. He called back at 10am and said please go to A&E immediately. Risk of serious infection, you may need an antibiotic drip, pack overnight bag in case.
It's a 45 mile trip to A&E, I have to go to one at a hospital with a MaxFac dept. By the time we'd packed and driven there it was noon.
Saw a triage nurse straight away. Said no sign of infection, vital signs all good. So then we have the long wait to see a Doctor. Perfectly understandable as there were some very ill patients arriving. Saw the Doctor at 3pm. He phoned MaxFac for advice. They asked for a blood test before the MDT could do a review.
4pm. Blood test results are back and they are being looked at in MaxFac.
5pm. MaxFac On Call Doctor arrives in A&E. Says definitely no infection but they need to urgently relieve the pressure on my cranial nerve. Emergency gum incision booked for tomorrow in MaxFac minor surgery unit.
7pm. Finally get home after getting stuck behind a tractor for several miles. Off to bed.
