mouth ulcers

Less than one minute read time.

Hi there , I wonder if anyone can offer any advice as to how to treat mouth ulcers . My husband har chemotherapy and radio therapy  for tonsil cancer , ending in july 2010 one of the side affects of the treatment was terrible mouth ulcers caused by the radiotherapy , the consultant said this was one of the worse cases he had seen but said it would get better in time , which to a certain extent they did , but they are constantly re occuring ,nothing seems to heldp . would be grateful for any ideas .

thanks

hasn't the doctor give you a mouth wash - difflam seems to work for me. On prescription from doctor, mind you mine haven't been as bad as your husbands.

    Good luck

There is a liquid antibiotic which the doc can prescribe which is rinsed round the mouth before swallowing.

One tip my nurse gave me to help with the ulcers was to freeze grapes and suck on them straight from the freezer.

I hope your husband gets some relief soon. It's not very pleasant having mouth ulcers.

    Best wishes, Christine xx

Hi, hope your husband get some relieve soon, nothing worse than mouth/throat ulcers.  I had Difflam, got from hospital, helped to an extent, then heard about GELCLAIR . Worked even better, tastes of liquorice, but done the job really fast. Hope this helps take care xxx

Have to agree with Carrot Tops, if you had been in the chat room about 6 months ago you would have heard us all raving about GelClair...

It work's amazingly but you may need to press them a little to get it as it is relatively new however it was designed specifically for those undergoing chemotherapy and radiation. My daughter had horrific mucositis throughout treatment but GelClair almost cleared all of her mouth ulcers within 48 hours.

She hated the taste... but she hates the taste of most things.... give her a jam sandwich flavour mouth wash and she'd be happy ;)

    Best wishes xx

P.S We hated Difflam... did nothing for her.
