A useful link

Less than one minute read time.

Sometimes you will hear me complaining that I have run out of spoons, or that the cutlery drawer is empty. When I do that, I'm talking about the spoon theory, completely forgetting that everybody does not spend their entire life faffing about on the internet so some people won't know what I'm talking about. Not that there is anything new there.

When I talk about the spoon theory, I'm talking about this: http://www.butyoudontlooksick.com/articles/written-by-christine/the-spoon-theory-written-by-christine-miserandino/

She sums it up pretty well.

So now you know.

    Hilary,

I am lucky that I don't have the need to count spoons. It was enlightening yet heartbreaking to read, it highlights the everyday choices that people with a longterm illness face everyday. I truly hope people take the time to read this link it is worthwhile for many reasons.

    Thank you Helen x

    Hi Hiary,

For some reason I cannot access the page where Christine's theory is totally explained, but I got enough of the gist of it from looking around google to now understand.

    Hi Tim

I'm getting a 404 error on the spoon theory pages too, now. They were okay yesterday. I'll try to sort the link out when - you guessed it - I have enough spoons!

    xx

Helen - thank you for reading! The lady who came up with the theory has lupus, which is very much an 'invisible' disease. I do look fairly ill at present, so people mostly understand when all I can do is sleep. It doesn't stop me feeling guilty about my messy house, though!

Ah Hilary, why did you have to mention messy house as though it was somewthing that shouldn't be!

It's a great piece of writing and the spoons analogy is a good one.

Before being diagnosed as diabetic, I ate what I wanted and too much of what I shouldn't. Now I have to read labels and count calories and especially carbs and fats, so I suppose these are now my spoons>

Thankyou, for highlighting this wonderful piece of writing.

PS. I thought I'd bettter be Colin when I'm being serious!

Hello Hilary. Yes, I have just read the Spoon Theory and found it very thought provoking as I had forgotten all about the daily efforts which I went through following my surgery / treatment - nothing came easy and natural for a long time.

Hey, never mind the house ........ you are more important than that ! So make sure that you snuggle down under the duvet early tonight and rest ......... save the spoons.

    Love, Joycee xx
