Jack's Prom
My son wasn't actually that fussed about prom, maybe its a boy thing I dunno. I do know that he wasn't keen on me making him be the last pickup so I could grab photos - until I reminded him it might be the only prom I get to see out of my kids. That did the trick . As it was, his friends Dad invited me back to their house to take photo's. So I did my best to climb into his top of the range AMG Mercedes as ladylike as I could - which was an epic failure of course, cos I am NOT ladylike at all!
Thats Jack in the middle with James on the left and Tom on the right - they have been friends since they met at nursery school around 2.5years old. More photo's scattered throughout the blog.
When we got to Toms dad's gorgous house, his Nan and his great Aunt were already out on the patio and David's partner was serving food and drink, I looked at Jack and said - "see I am not the only one who thought it was worth seeing you off etc". The boys were forced to eat sausage rolls, cocktail sausages and crisps by Tom's nan, she was lovely, it was a fun and relaxed time and then David and I took a few snaps.
I was dropped off home before they were taken to the Prom in Stansted where by all accounts they had a fabulous time.
The Birthday Weekend
Well here I am one year older and definately non the wiser! I am proud to say I am 43 years old now and I bloomin glad to be getting older and still here to bore you all about it!
I woke on Saturday July 3rd to the smell of bacon cooking and on my arrival downstairs, hubby gave me a cuppa tea and a toasted oven bottom muffin filled with crispy bacon - not turkey rashers - real bacon......OMG is was delicious, the first bacon I'd had since before February! I opened my cards, (non from the kids cos they were still asleep) showered and dressed. We headed into town for some retail therapy. Two pairs of shorts, one pair of cropped trousers, one nice pair of linen Per Una trousers, three tops, one t-shirt, one belt, one shrug/cardigan thing (nice tho) and I was ready for a drink. So into Costa Packet where I resisted a cake unlike Tony (big pink cupcake) and a skinny latte later, I was ready to continue. We picked up Sean's phone which we had dropped into a shop for unlocking (Tesco wanted £20, shop wanted £8 and they installed all the settings for o2 and checked it for us) and we bumped into Tony's uncle. Forty mins later we realised it was getting a bit late for lunch at my favourite posh food pub The John Barleycorn and I wasn't even hungry (now there's a first), so I suggested we went to .............. ready for this .......... SAINSBURY'S ...... yes you heard me right, not Tesco's LOL
It was baking hot on Saturday and I didn't fancy a takeout, even though I don't diet at weekends and definately NOT on my birthday I didn't want to go mad, so I asked for a nice bit of steak and some decent sausages (cos the kids would moan) for a bbq. We bought authentic French Bread, baby new potato salad and coleslaw and some rice along with outdoor reared British Pork sausages and a huge fillet of beef from the meat counter where the butcher man cut it into lovely big steaks for us. Meanwhile I had a text from Lara "happy birthday Mum, your cards on the table, can I go out to play?", kids are great eh! We got home and I did indeed find my card on the table wrapped in paper - apparently she went card shopping in the week with Tony on her way to meeting friends, got to the till with the card and realised no envelope - couldn't be bothered to go back, hmmmm thats my girl!!!! Sean was on Call of Duty (no big surprise) and Jack surfaced, made me a cuppa tea and gave me my card.
Got to us cooking the BBQ and Lara had gone swimming and decided to eat round her friends Nans (oh to be cherished eh), Sean was out with his mates and came back, eat around two grains of rice, a few bites of steak and was full up and dashed back out! So it was just Jack, Tony and I. That said it was relaxed meal on the patio, a few drinks a good chat and Tony did a handsome job on the BBQ. Lara got home shortly after and said she'd only been given a small portion of chips and was hungry so heated up her steak and devoured that. We decided to watch a film and paid to view Avatar. Sean came in around 20mins after the start but it was good to have the whole family around for at least part of my official birthday!
...................to be continued!
Jack on the right with some school friends outside the converted Barn the hotel use for a hall - looked rather nice to me!
Thought for the day:
It takes a long time to grow young.
