Whats That Smell????

Well its been awhile since I enthralled you with the "jetset lifestyle of a brain tumour patient on one wage" but then nothing much has happened.  Jack has gotten through all of his GCSE's against the odds - the school has been nothing but trouble.  Entering him for the wrong levels (foundation instead of higher), having a computer crash on him doing some worthless ALAN test at question 34 out of 40 and then doing nothing about enabling him to resit until today.  They wanted him to just wait at school for 2.5hrs with nothing to do (all coursework finished, exams finished.....only went in to hand in last piece of coursework) and then resit the entire exam......he decided not!  After all its not a GCSE and won't help him get into the sixth form he wants.  So he did what all boys do at 10.30am with nowhere to be, they went to the cafe and had bacon sarnies!!!!!!  Trust me I don't usually bag out teachers, I wouldn't want their job for anything and the stories my daughter in year 7 comes home with.....well best not repeated...but on this occassion I do feel they have let Jack down a bit. Anyway he's out of there now, just the official leavers assembly and book return day and then he can burn his uniform LOL (although I have a son in year 9 so maybe I'll hang onto it).

Backtrack to lastnight and I am making spaghetti bolognaise for dinner - no pasta sauce here....its all done from scratch.  So I boil the kettle, meanwhile put an inch of water in the pan to start heating it up......stand the spaghetti in and just nip upstairs to take some laundry up the boys room.  I say nip, I got up there pretty quickly, I just got distracted talking to Jack....coming downstairs I can smell burning.  Now hubby and other son were in the lounge, which is right next to the kitchen and they smelt nowt!  Go in and the pan is black and I have to cut an inch off the spaghetti (no spares so it had to do) and grab another pan out.  Dorey brain Debs strikes again.  Dinner turned out ok and the smell of burnt pans and pasta did eventually go......kinda!

Sean's laptop has stopped charging AGAIN so thats gone off to the Techguys and bugger me two days later Lara's is playing up, same problem, different laptop and no extended cover on this one.  Guess the Bank of Mum & Dad are going to be fixing that one!

Tomorrow Jack and I are going into town to shop for shoes, shirt & ties for his prom, I hope its as easy as the suit buying was, although please let it be cheaper!

Here's a picture of one our baby froads on our miniature lily.  Think he needs some lessons in what they eat, as you can see a fly is sitting on him/her!!  We have actually lost quite a few, we find them dried out by the pond.......quite sad.

Thought for today
Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

Oh dear, Drama in the Debs house again - hope the exam results are good and there's no more technical glitches with the laptops. Re the pan and rhubarb - gooseberries work well too!

Hope some of the froads survive to adulthood to hop off into the sunset. Love to you and the family, Val XX

  • Nice to see you back a little more often, whilst what now will never return its good to see the regulars return as lots don't bother now and it was such a good community.

    best wishes

  • Shame you don't live near me so I could send my computer guy around to fix your laptops. He charges £15 an hour and often only charges for one hour when he has  spent much more time twiddling with my machines.

Good tips on cleaning your pan but where do you find gooseberries or rhubarb nowadays? I have four major supermarkets near where I live and I've not seen those fruits for years.

As for men not noticing smells emanating from the kitchen... well, they're also deaf. My beloved never hears the timer bleeping on the cooker either!

    Best wishes,
