First I have to start by filling you in on something kinda important that happened Thursday that I forgot about until messaging with Leigh on Facebook yesterday. I was talking about how crap the financial burden can be with this disease, hospitals expecting you to take over a year off work (sick pay was £76 a week for the first 28 weeks only) and because I worked part-time (to be a good Mum) and worked 15 hours, I was entitled to no benefits at all as you needed to work over 16 hours and pay NI. Macmillan talked me into applying for DLA and their rep at the hospital helped fill in the forms because at the time I was having RT and struggling with stuff like that. I was shocked to find I was awarded full rate for the next 3 years and felt a fraud, I phoned my specialist nurse and she explained things to me. I am at risk of seizures and have memory problems.....which leads me onto what happened.........
Went into the kitchen to cook dinner, lit the top oven as I was only warming some Stromboli bread to have with our pasta. Prepared the chicken, broccoli and garlic to cook, when some 10mins later I had to light another gas ring to cook the pasta the there was an almighty bang and the blast blew the top oven door open with flames gushing out!! I thankfully stepped back and was unharmed, didn't even lose my eyebrows! The kids came running from their bedrooms, Tony came storming in from the lounge and lectured me......I felt about 3 years old. I joked my way through it as usual but once alone in the kitchen I realised what a danger I "can" be sometimes to myself and my family....so maybe I do deserve the DLA....so you see, I really do live dangerously
Friday and I woke to that fine drizzly rain that really soaks through everything after a while - bum, I had a few loads of washing to do (of course). Got the kids off to school (Tony starts early on a Friday and was gone before we rose) and put the non-recycling wheelie bin and food caddy out for collection. Made a cuppa tea and had a nose around FB where we talking about the weather and Lanz told me he had ordered some sunshine.......well did you know that Lanz must have a direct line to the powers that be, because within 10mins the clouds had gone, blue skies and sunshine.....cheers Lanz!
Did the laundry and got two loads out before doing the walk to Tesco's, now you all know how much I love to cook and I rarely buy prepared food but after yesterday my confidence wobbled and I ended up grabbing a bag of "takeaway" Indian.....Chicken Korma, Chicken Tikka Massala, Onion Bhaji, Rice and Naan Breads. I bought a pack of plain poppadoms and some classic dips to go with it. It was pretty good, not as nice or healthy as home cooked but I think under the threat of blowing the entire house up ...... excused. Remembered my teabags (finally was down to last 2) and shampoo (Jack had been virtually wringing the bottle out ) and headed home.
The school phoned me to explain what was happening over the bike shed incidents and that a boy had "fessed up" to a fair few naughty things and the school were treating it as criminal damage and involving his parents and the police. Good call. Tony picked Lara up on his way home from work, Jack wanted to walk with his mates and Sean bikes. I spent the evening printing out some award certificates to hand out at Tony's karate clubs first monthly polymetrics/fitness class to keep the kids motivated and headed to bed just after 10pm without causing my own kind of criminal damage in the house today....we could all sleep safe in our beds.
Thought for today:
Memory is a way of holding on to the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose.
