Debs Daily Deliberations 157

4 minute read time.

Saturday and I woke up to find Dexter curled up next to me on Tony's pillow and Ollie was snuggled into the curl of my stomach. The kids were all asleep and Tony was doing some overtime - long may that last! - so downstairs, cuppa tea and a quick nose around my emails, facebook and on here. Finished cuppa tea, washing on the go, garden cleared of dog poop - I can't wait for Ollie to learn to stand still and do his business, instead he leaves a dotted line...which is OK if you spot him do it, if not I am on the poo trail for a while LOL (too much info I know...but we support and share on here folks, read the blurb).

There was a beautiful teaching assistant (by that I mean inside and out) at my kids old primary school called Mrs Merrie, two years ago she was diagnosed with lung cancer and sadly she lost her battle this weekend. She lived upto her name, always smiling, fantastic with the kids, a real asset to the school and this world in general, she leaves a husband and 16yo son and 12yo daughter. Another star in the sky - peace be the journey Lyn x

Hung out the laundry and got another load on to wash. Tony rings me from work and asks if I fancy going out for lunch, that took all of 1 second to answer lol and off I rushed to do what hair I have.....put the straightening irons....did my makeup, changed my top and did my hair - switched off the straightening irons - or so I thought! Came downstairs and checked on the washing, halfway through its cycle and I notice that the dispenser and liquid gel are still sitting on my worktop....drain the machine and start again. Around this time Jack calls down asking to use my hair straighteners (yeah I worry about him too folks) and I say yes - don't mind as long as he asks......at which point he informs me I had left them on Confused. Damn, there was me thinking my short term memory was improving!!

Tony comes home from work and changes and we head off out to lunch. We finally get to the John Barleycorn which is about a 10 minute drive away but we always go wrong and get lost - today we got to a t-junction and Tony asks, "which way"........"I'm sure its right" I say, so he turns left!!!!! Yaaaaaaaaay I was right lol I had a warm goats cheese tart of filo pastry lined with red onion chutney and a big chunk of melting goats cheese on top with a side salad dressed in balsamic vinegar - ok ok I also ordered a bowl of chips - cos they are the best chips and thats my excuse and I am sticking to it - Tony had a pate ploughmans and I washed it down with half a lager & lime (a rare occassion with me drinking)......my lunch looked so pretty I wanted to take a photo to share with you but Tony gets very embarassed and I didnt. After lunch we took a drive to Nazeing to a watergarden centre and ended up buying a small pre-formed pond......now there is a story to this, are you sitting comfortably? We have an old bucket by the shed that is filled with rain water and full of bugs n stuff and inhabited by a frog/toad, I don't know the difference! Tony has grown quite attached to the little fella and has decided to build him a new home - I have a feeling after all the hard work of installing the pond, the frog will stay in the bucket LOL

So I supervise the digging - this generally means I bring out a cup of coffee intermittently and hold open the refuse sacks that Tony is filling with soil. 4 big red hessian sacks full and we head to the civic amenity to empty it out - I say we, I sat in the car just to keep him company) and called in at Tesco's on the way home to buy something for dinner. I made chilli beef nacho's with sides of griddled halloumi cheese with pitta bread, houmous, tatziki, salsa, guacamole, soured cream, rice and the leftover chilli was put in a bowl for Sean who doesn't like cheese! I enjoy our Saturday night "Pick n Mix" meals, more relaxed and more time for the kids to fight!!!!!!  Before dinner Tony continues to dig and refills the 4 hessian sacks and decides to call it day on the pond.

The rest of the evening is spent watching Tony play Aerosmith Guitar Hero (one of his fav bands) badly I might add but thats between us, of course I tell him he is a rock god LOL Then it was X-Factor - ♫ Come on Eileen ♫ - what an amazing lady for 80 years old! Then we watched Criminal Minds and as I settled in to watch Lie To Me with Tim Roth, Tony was falling asleep so he headed off to bed, I watched the rest and joined him.......not a bad day at all, the sun shone all day, good food and good company, what more can I ask for.

Thought for today:
Family life is full of major and minor crises -- the ups and downs of health, success and failure in career, marriage, and divorce -- and all kinds of characters. It is tied to places and events and histories. With all of these felt details, life etches itself into memory and personality. It's difficult to imagine anything more nourishing to the soul.

    Hi Debs,

I have been reading your blog for quite some time now.. I stumbled across it once looking around the What Now site & then used to look in to read yours & a couple of other peoples to see how you were all doing. So it's great to now be on the same site as everyone, so I can say how much I enjoy your posts & admire your strength in this journey.

Hope you have as nice a day as yesterday & may Ollie learn to stand still very soon.. :-)

    xx

Hi Debs, well im a typical potatoes and

3veg girl, but reading all these foods

that you serve up to your family has wet

my appetite to be daring and try some

thing different.I cant name all the foods

you have talked about in your blogs,[cant

even pronounce some of them lol]

I think there's pancetta, humus, oh Debs

i cant think what else, can you email me some recipes when you have time. I love

fish, but its just basic recipes, like batter

or breadcrumbs and yellow haddock in

the oven with butter and milk. I love to

cook, but usually just the normal stuff us

londoners were fed by our mums, so to

try something that taste and looks quite

opposite to what im used to would be great, plus it would shock my hubby ,lol.

      Best Regards Lucy Lee. x
