Debs Daily Deliberations 146

2 minute read time.
Short and sweet today - like me :| Why, cos all I did was sort the kids out for school, find correct PE kit for each child and give them their lunches and once they went I headed straight to the couch with my pillow and a throw. I stayed there watching a Greys Anatomy marathon till 12.30pm when I decided I was a bit peckish. Just didnt fancy anything or making anything so settled for 3 slices of "best of both" bread toasted with marmite and a glass of squash. Whenever I am on my oral chemo cycle I can't face milk........not even in a cuppa (I miss that). However, the "headache from hell" started late Thursday and I woke with it Friday morning - last cycle I phoned Kim my nurse (after some nagging on here) and was told that Temodal does make the brain swell in some people - ME included, I stupidly forgot to ask whether I could take a low dose of steroids just for the days when the "buttercup headache" rears its ugly head (I have plenty of leftover 2mg tabs)......last time it started around Thursday (day 4 of 5) and started to go by Monday..........but waking and going to sleep with a headache just to wake the following day with it is tiring and depressing. Must mention it next time I am at the onc's. Anyway lunch over I hung some laundry out and put some clothes on, didn't want the kids to come home and see Mum "looking ill", its so hard with them not knowing the full extent of my condition. Tony finishes work early on a Friday and picks Jack (and now Lara) up from school, Sean bikes and is sometimes home before them! I had to sit up when they got home and my day of lounging with the two dogs curled up beside me was over......the noise and chatter was good but hard to focus on today. Tony and Lara cooked my Chicken and Pancetta pasta dish and they did a good job, I actually quite enjoyed having someone cook for me......first time since my brain surgery! I managed a yoghurt for dessert and enjoyed a deep relaxing bubble bath..........and back to bed by 9pm. Fingers crossed the headache will dissipate a little quicker this weekend. Thought for yesterday: If a man sits down to think, he is immediately asked if has a headache. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Debs, really sorry to hear of this headache from hell. I know it's so debilitating. I hope you get a good advice from your onc nurse, there may be other things you can take apart from steroid.

I really don't know how you manage the busy family life, the chemo and the time of month so well, well enough to keep the daily blogs going to provide us the entertainment and inspiration.

Hope you get better over the weekend (and make the most of it, get your hubby and kids to cook)

Hope you have woken up today feeling a lot better, although if the family are happy to cook, then let them!

    Enjoy the weekend

and hope you can get it sorted out ready for next time. I know just what you mean about "being ill" when the kids are there and also about the 'focus'. Let them cook and tell them you're busy 'thinking great thoughts'!

    love kx

ps thanks for blogging even when you're feeling cr*p - you are an indispensable part of my day now!!

I think if we could, we would all be at your place pampering and fluffing pillows, for the smiles you give us.  Although...kind of knowing you, I don't think you would have any of it!  Just know we are in your corner.  My girlfriend used to use frozen broccoli for her headaches...lol...it was the ice factor, not the nutrition that helped...she never had ice...lol.  Hang tough...xo
