Debs Daily Deliberations - 10

2 minute read time.
Afternooners!!!!!!!!!!! Day 24 of radiotherapy DONE, one more day and onto phase 2!!!! I have had a busy day today, radiotherapy at 9am - well a little later as they were still doing QA (quality assurance - I had to ask!) on the machines. Next we wandered off to the coffee shop as my consultant oncologists clinic doesn't start till 10am and if you are lucky she is in before 11am! A nice choccy croissant and skinny latte (contradiction right there LOL) and I was ready to face whatever was coming next. First we popped in to see Ray the Macmillan benefits advisor for Queens, he was VERY helpful and went through my DLA form with me, halfway through my Onc knocked on the door and said she was ready when I was - could have fainted!!! Anyways, Ray said go do your doc bit and come back. Apparently everything is going just dandy with the radiotherapy, she seemed to think the front of my head was looking a bit pink and could be the start of it getting sore.....but I wear a hat a lot and that might be rubbing rather than bad zapping.....either way, if it starts to feel uncomfortable over the weekend tell the RT team and they can organise a mild steroid cream - dont wait till next Weds when I see her. She went through the chemo regime with me (probably forget that by the time it starts LOL) and that I would get a 4 week break after radiotherapy - sounds good to me! Well after a pleasant drive home we headed off to Hair to Ware for my wig consultation - oddly enough I decided to ignore Steves helpful advice and try to be open to various styles etc. Never having had thick or long hair I thought I would try a long one on - oh nooooooo that came off in seconds. Had a long bob on and couldn't get over the fact my younger sister was staring at me out of the mirror - quick get that off LOL Almost an hour later what did I end up with - one that pretty much matched the style and colour I had before surgery!!! So much for a brave new me ;) I even got a haircut/wigcut, it was too thick so it was thinned out a little and more of a fringe put in to make me feel more like me. After departing with £200 we were on our way home and I had on my new hair with its highlights (and none of them the sparkly natural variety which are appearing more frequently in the small amount of hair I have left!) now it was time to face the kids - thankfully each of them were very tactful....the boys said how nice it looked and my daughter stood grinning for a bit, asked to feel it and said it felt like proper hair, was very soft and liked the style (how well have I dragged them up eh!). Hubby did a great advisory job even though I chose what I wanted ;) I am going to karate tonight but not wearing me hair, I don't want to irritate my scalp too much yet and besides, the wig might just be me Sunday Best LOL Todays thought: "Every worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory." Hi Debs

Glad you got a wig you are happy with - I may be wrong but I thought the NHS contributed something towards the cost?? Someone at the hospital should know.

My hubby has a message for you (it is clean) can you start putting your menus on here every day to give me some inspiration (cheeky so and so).  We had roast lamb last night and they were really impressed that I'd actually made some effort.

As you haven't given me any ideas today, its spag bog all round!

    Love

    Judith xx

I am lucky, I did get a wonderful grant from Macmillan towards my wig which saved me from having to deal with the awful woman at the hospital and gave me the freedom to go where I wanted and buy what I wanted.

I still feel a bit weird in it - still far more hair on it than I head when I was healthy LOL

Yes Carol, I will be brave and post a piccie - you sure you are ready for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
