A New puppy to love

2 minute read time.
Well today I took the plunge and got myself another dog. It has just been so quiet around here without April. Robbie is A Black,7 month old working cocker spaniel. I was told about him by the lady from the cocker rescue society. I had built up this idea about a silly family not having a clue and making the dogs life a misery. But how wrong I was. They were the most loving people who had just bought the wrong dog at the wrong time. I wanted to spend just a few minutes alone with him to see what he was like away from the family. Their little boy (two and a half years old) sat down and cried "nooooooooooooo, not my Rockie" when I took him out for a walk. This had the tears rolling down my cheeks before i got to the front door. We walked around a little grass area, although I had already made up my mind that I wanted to take him home. The family seemed very pleased when I told them what sort of life he would get with me, out all day working around the horses and long walks on the downs when im off. So they agreed to let me have him. Then the Dad picked the dog up in his arms, held him close, kissed his head and with a lump in his throat said "youre gonna have a lovely life mate, I love you". Well, that finished me off, I sobbed all the way to the car. As you would imagine, the first day has been a bit fraught for both me and Robbie. I changed his name because i didnt like Rockie and thought it sounds similar enough not to confuse him. He has eaten very well tonight so that is a good sign. We have had a few pee's on the carpet, a few woofs and a bit of crying but all seems quiet now. So I am going off to bed in the hope that we will have a quiet night although I am not holding my breath!!! Tomorrow he has a very busy schedule. vets first then down to meet my dad in the old folks home, which will please my dad to bits. Then off to meet the ma in law as she is the one that gets the job of dog sitter when i go away. So here's hoping she approves of him. I can hear a lot of snoring so fingers crossed.
