Here we go again...

1 minute read time.

Our battle against cancer started a year and a half ago.

Mum is a fighter, the strongest person I know. She's always been the person that everyone turns too and looks up too. She has a heart of gold and more fight than Mohammed Ali!

When we found out Mum had cancer, she hid it from us kids for as long as she could. She protected us from it and simply got on with it!

Mum was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma; it was in her lymph nodes and spleen and the lumps in her neck and swollen stomach were tell tales signs.
Mum went into hospital and started the Chemo; she was in for a week before coming home and carrying life on as normal. Mum returned for treatment regularly and had 6 hits of the CHOPS in total.

The good news came in time for Christmas 2009 and we were over joyed.
We knew the Cancer could come back at anytime, but Mums positivity shone through. My sister and I were over protective to say the least! We lost Dad the year before to a heart attack, therfore it was Me, Mum and my brother and Sister now.

A very quick year went by and slowly we noticed Mums mood changing; she'd get snappy at times and her stomach started swelling up again. Mum's 3 monthly checks hadn't shown anything, and Mum reasured us that all was ok.

On the 20th January 2011, we went to the Hospital with Mum for her check up. The Cancer is back and Mum needs more Chemo; RICE this time.
We're now waiting for a bed at the hospital for Mum to be admitted and our journey can continue.

I'm positive and there's no doubt in my mind that we'll fight it again, and win.
Its going to be a long old journey with tears and heart ache no doubt, but together we can make it.

This diary will be our journey together...

    Hi Kim

I have been in your possition more times than I care to remember. Even when the 'all clear' given it still hangs around doesn't it! Then you get the news you have been dreading that it has made it's very unwelcome return. My mum sounds very much like yours and will fight till she draws her last breathe, they both sound tremendously brave, strong and stubborn!. Wish you all the very best with your chapter.

Mum is now in the Hospital, she went in last night, when a bed became available. The Hospital is fantastic, very new, clean and the staff are amazing. They're very friendly and they know there stuff!

I spent the day with Mum today. She had a CT Scan and some Bone Marrow was taken from her hip for them to try and harvest. Mum's also had fluids via drip and the Chemo will be starting tomorrow.

Again, Mum has taken it all in her stride! The Doctor commented on Mum's pain threshold and said patients normally yelp in pain when having the bone marrow take. Mum didnt move an inch!

Mums attitude to cancer is a simple one...

Theres nothing be can do, but fight it together.

I like that, so the fight has started. x

Mum had a bad reaction to the Rituximab today, was pretty scary. It was the first time i've ever seen my mum worried.

The doctors and nurses were fantastic though and gave Mum other drugs to make her better!!

Another exciting day on the Cancer Ward!!
