Took Dad to hospital on Monday, had a chest x-ray and then went to see his consultant who he hasn't seen since February. This was our first visit in four months and his consultant couldn't believe how well Dad looked he also said that Dad shouldn't really be here as 60-70% of people in Dad's position who hadn't had any treatment wouldn't be here now so Dad was quite surprised. As he is having difficulty swallowing and keeps choking on food etc he is having a ct scan and if it is to do with the tumour pressing on his oesophegus he may be able to have radiotherapy if he wants it, they are also going to scan his brain. He had a bad weekend and slept in the chair with Mum on the sofa and was very short of breath etc but on Monday he was a lot better. I told him again that he would have good and bad days - he has been so lucky so far. Mum had to help him shower which she hadn't done for a while as he was managing on his own and she realised how bony he has got, he is comfy sitting in the armchair with his special cushion but its painful to sit up in bed now.
Got to go back in two weeks for the results of the scan and to see someone about the radiotherapy. Not sure as we have got this far whether Dad should have it or not - it would only be palliative to help his breathing, swallowing etc and the Dr did say it would get worse before it got better after having it.
