Chemo all done and a good scan result

2 minute read time.

Alex had his last chemo on Thursday, felt nauseous when we got to the hospital and unfortunately as soon as he had his canula fitted he was sick, the nurse did say it was quite common with the ABVD regime to have this nausea as things like the canula & smells remind people of the treatment & the after effects.  They put the canula in the back of his hand for the first time which was ok until he had the last hour long drug and this hurt his arm so much they had to change the canula to the other arm.

As soon as he had finished the treatment he had to rush to the loo and be sick again :(  He went straight to bed feeling really rough and stayed there until Saturday - he tried getting up as he was so tired but fed up as he couldn't get to sleep but ended up going back to bed exhausted. By Monday he was nearly back to normal and we managed to go for a Bank Holiday pub lunch in the sunshine.

Tuesday we had his post chemo CT scan and they had to put a canula in so they could put the dye for the scan into his arm which was fine until he came back from having the scan - he had to rush to the loo and be sick again, this carried on in the car on the way home too.  Went straight to bed and stayed there until the next day feeling rough.

Today we went up for the results of the scan and the waiting was awful but good news the chemo seems to have done its job - I can't begin to describe the great feeling we both had, lots of hugs and smiles :)  I took him to the carvery to celebrate and then he went out with his friends.

We have next week free from visits to the hospital and then the following week we have to go back for the radiotherapy mould to be made and another CT scan (hopefully without the dye!) for the radiotherapy planning to be done then he will have 3/4 weeks of radiotherapy starting at the end of the month.

As I said to Alex the worst is over with, hopefully, and the rest of the treatment shouldn't be as bad so he is looking forward to returning to work and returning to a normal life again :)

I have been with Dad Tuesday and Wednesday and will be there again tomorrow as Mum is having her week of treatment.  We have had a lovely couple of days and I have taken him out and about.  Once Alex is back at work I will start going over to help him and Mum more regularly again.  He has lost a lot more weight and is getting weaker - he fell up the patio step last week - luckily only a few bruises, I think my Mum was in more shock than he was as she saw it happen. Anyway I'm looking forward to spending more time with them again shortly.
