My CT scan detected a serious obstruction in my sigmoid colon. When I had my operation on Monday they did find obstructions higher up, but the main 'tumour' turned out to be the mesh inserted after a hernia op a few years ago. So no need for a stoma, and a much quicker recovery time than had been expected. My surgeon saiid he always treats the patient not the scan. Of course that means they might find problems the scan hasn't revealed, but it does provide reasons not to be overwhelmed by a scan result.
