Confused about Hospices

Less than one minute read time.

I am told that if you register with a Hospice when you start chemo you will be on their register and will be guaranteed a place should you need to go into the Hospice in the future.  Has anyone else done this or heard of doing this.

    Hi Joannie Mae,

I would suggest giving our Macmillan Cancer Support specialists a call on Freephone 0808 808 00 00 (Monday to Friday 9am-8pm). They should be able to help answer questions like this - and they are also available if you just need someone to talk to.

    Hi Joannie Mae

I've not heard of this before but if respite care is required then I would think you would have to register with them and it certainly wouldn't do any harm to enquire would it.

I would however think that 'end of life' care would very much depend on the availability of resources at the time as no-one can give an accurate timeline for this.  There were no places available in our local hospice when my brother was in the final stages of his illness but the GP and Macmillan nurses were able to get him a place in the hospice in a neighbouring town.

    Much love,

    Nin xxx
