Music can touch our hearts and uplift our spirits during challenging times. In this blog, we delve into the impact of music on individuals affected by cancer. Through stories and experiences shared by our Community members, we explore how music has become a source of solace, hope, and healing.
Our community members in the Living with incurable cancer forum often express the benefits of music, and how it lifts their spirits. One member shared their experience, highlighting a song from “The Greatest Showman” that resonated with them.
Another member affirmed the uplifting power of music.
During times of distress, music has the power to calm and comfort. A Community member shared her experience of supporting her partner in the hospital, where music played a crucial role.
Feeling anxious and uncomfortable during a scan is common. During scans or treatments, some members have shared how music can bring a sense of comfort and mask the noise of the machines.
For many, music plays a significant role in emotional healing. After the loss of his wife to breast cancer, a member reached out to our Bereaved Spouses and partners forum, seeking advice on “starting again”. They discovered the tremendous role that music plays in their healing process.
Some Community members have found therapeutic solace in creating music themselves. One of our Community champions started a discussion thread called "Songs are therapy too" where another member shared how much they had benefited from listening to and playing music.
There are individuals who have the gift of making music, and it becomes an invaluable form of therapy. However, for those without experience or skills, that shouldn’t hinder them from creating a song.
Last month, a member shared their experience of completing a very uplifting musical project. They wrote and recorded a song for their husband, thanks to The Swan Song Project.
You can read more about their story here.
