And last, but not least - our third and final Christmas prize draw

1 minute read time.

'Merry Christmas' written in white over an image of some Christmas tree branches in snow

So far, we’ve asked for your favourite Christmas traditions and songs and what a response we’ve had! It’s been wonderful to hear all about what our members do over the holiday period and today, we’re wanting to hear more.

This week, we are giving away 9 echo dots. Echo dots are smart speakers which you can use to voice control your music and smart home, connect with others by making calls and it comes with in-built assistive technology where you can ask 'Alexa' to answer questions, read the news, check the weather, set alarms and more.

Our prizes this week have been kindly donated by Loyalty Consulting UK Ltd.

Christmas can be a magical time of the year but it can also very difficult. Therefore, we want to focus on how you look after yourselves throughout the holiday period. We want to hear your favourite well-being tips and how you show kindness to yourself throughout Christmas; whether it’s a chocolate treat, a hot bath, spending time with family and friends or a long walk in the fresh air.

To enter the draw:

Simply tell us your Christmas well-being tip in the comment box below.

Good luck!

From,

Ellen, Rachel and Matt
Macmillan's Community Team

  • Physical well being: eat what you want and no guilt about it. Plenty of the for the perfect diet in a couple of weeks. Mental well being: socialise with folks who lift your spirit. That could be family, friends or whomever. Emotional well being: what ever works for you, good music, meditations (I like the Headspace app), silence, walk in the country, etc. I am grateful I am here this Christmas, and after my most recent scan, I may be here for more. Wishing happiness and health to all.

  • The greatest Christmas gifts are not bought, they are free.  A kind word, a smile or taking the time to talk to someone who might be a bit lonely - we just don’t know how far these little gifts might spread with a little ripple effect and then, suddenly, there can be a wave of caring, what a nice thought at Christmas.  Best wishes to everyone for a peaceful Christmas.

  • Switching the TV and Mobiles off.

Everyone getting their big coats on and walking in the beautiful forests and hills that surround us.

Taking time to sit and play games with our four granddaughters, colouring in unicorns with them and watching them make up their own shows.

I have spent a few festive periods in hospital....... so we have a family determination to enjoy each day with as much strength we have , loving each other and loving those around us that are not so fortunate.

  • Taste buds shot due to treatment, but this is temporary, daughters 21st 3 days post treatment and Christmas is 5 days after treatment so this year I’ll be tea total as will be using pain meds on both days and probably sleeping. It’s just one year so hopefully can enjoy many more years post treatment. Battle with thoughts hardest but taking day by day only way

  • For Me

I feel a sense of peace when the Salvation Army Brass band plays in our close on Christmas Eve.  They have only been doing this for the last couple of years but It brings a tear to my eyes when I hear them. The people that are at home when this happen come out of their doors and stand outside to soak it all up.

Christmas morning a nice cup of tea in bed. Have a nice soak in the bath and then potter.  My partner and I are like bookends of the sofa watching cheesy Christmas repeats snuggled under the duvet, blissful.  We will speak with our respective families on the phone. Then can see from our lounge window the children in our close trying our their new bikes or gadgets giggling and laughing.

Just that for me really and want to enjoy every single minute.  Hey if there is snow there has to be a snowball fight on Christmas Day.
