coming off treatment

Less than one minute read time.

Hi everyone

I have recently finished taking Tamoxifen for 5 years and was wondering how others in the same position as myself have been feeling. I am only 40 so i still have not ventured into the menopause although the Tamoxifen did stop my periods for the 5 years (bliss) but now they have started again and my hormones are going crazy!!! I have been suffering from extreme anxiety and panic. After going though all of the treatment and handling it pretty well, I am now feeling the after shocks!!!!

Anyone have any ideas. xxxxxxxxx

  • I'm still on Tamoxifen so can't offer first-hand experience however, you can post in the Breast Cancer Group or even join another site which specializes in breast cancer ONLY and that is, 'Breast Cancer Care'.

I'm sure your hormones will settle down given time!

Hi, Did you come off the Tamoxifen straight away, or under Drs supervision gradually. If you came off the drug straight away that could be the cause of your anxiety and Panic. Have a word with the Dr and see what He/She says.  All the best and good luck.

Take care and be safe Big Hugs Love Sarsfield.xx

Hi Ruby, I finished tamoxifen two years ago. Stopping the drug straight away is completely safe, so don't worry on that score.

I didn't suffer any panic or anxiety when stopping it, but am wondering if you are going through what a lot of us have done on this site. Sometimes when we finish all treatment it can feel like our safety blanket has been taken away. We have gone so long being looked after and monitored really closely, then find ourselves adrift. It can be quite scary, but that will go away eventually. I have finished having mammograms until I am 50 and can go on the routine screening programme. I have over four years to go and I found that really scary. My next hospital visit which isn't until next year will be my last, all being well and I am to be discharged from the clinic. It's quite daunting, but at the same time it gives new hope for the future.

It would be worthwhile mentioning your anxiety to your doctor and see what he/she has to say.

Wishing you all the very best for the future.
