Three Months of Summer!!

May, June and July, 2010.  Probably the best summer of my life.  It started in May with our trip to China.    From Beijing where we walked, and in many places climbed, 10 miles and 32 towers  of the Great Wall, to Hong Kong, which I can only describe of a full on, in your face, sparkling city.  But it was the bits in between these two cities which were the real China.  Hundreds of miles of rice paddies, tea plantations and the serene landscape of the Karst  mountains and the Li and Yulong Rivers, and everywhere we went we found warm and friendly people......many just wanting to get their  picture taken with these two strange looking foreigners with big eyes and big nose.....hehehe.

We were back home by the end of May and then had a wonderful two months, June and July.  The weather has been so lovely, warm, with perfect blue skies.  Almost every weekend we have been away on walking or climbing trips.  Climbed Suger Loaf mountain in Wales, canoed 4 miles down the Wye River then walked up to Symonds Yat Rock and walked round Brownsea Island.   Last weekend we did a very strenuous 7 miles coastal walk between Seaton and Lyme Rigis, which I thoroughly enjoyed.    All this, and still managed to have some brilliant weekend barbies with friends and family.  My small veg patch and greenhouse is choc-o-block with scrumptious  veggies and berries of all sorts, which is very satisfying.  I know this is down to mother nature and the beautiful long sunny days, but it’s not without some effort from little old me, so I’m proud of my achievement.

My two wonderful boys seem very happy and settled.  The youngest has just finished college and has got a job with the Ambulance Service, something he has wanted since he was about 11 years old, so I’m so very proud of him.

Unfortunately Mum’s Leukaemia (ALL) was found to be worsening on her last oncology visit.  She is now on monthly infusions of Immunoglobulin to help boost her immune system  and her next oncology appointment (10the August) should tell us if she needs to start yet another bout of chemo.  I fear this will be her last round of treatment.

Many plans for the forthcoming months.  Want to visit the west coast of Ireland and want to visit the Norfolk coast again to see my sister.  Then I start my Level 3 Diploma in Complimentary Therapies on 16th September.  This will be a one year full time course, so should keep me busy and make the winter months more bareable.

As for my health.  Well, I’m feeling quite good at the moment, just some discomfort in my throat and chest and a painful spot at the top of my spine which seems to be worsening.  Still have bouts of comfort eating so still struggling to keep my weight below 11 stone.   Must make a big effort to trim some tummy fat before I start college.

Will try my hardest to post a pic from China.

Hi Christine,   your China holiday sounds fantastic!

Glad you have had a great summer - hope your mum picks up a bit,  but it seems summer is on the way out here!  Felt distincly chilly last night and had to close patio doors for the first time in ages as we were watching tv!

Here's to another good 6 months, Jeanie x
