Another lump and a dodgy ticker?

2 minute read time.

Exactly what it says in the title!! Well I will start the right way around otherwise people will assume one led to the other but thats not the case.  For about a week now I have been experiencing on/off chest pain, tiredness, breathlessness and a pounding heartbeat which I am very aware of even with the slight exertion.  I have woken up a couple of times in the night and it has been beating so fast that I thought it was going to come out of my chest.  I do have a heart abnormality called Wolf Parkinson White Syndrome which I have had since birth and is pretty harmless...unless you have another condition as well then you can just drop down dead, but I cant remember what that is??  It means my heart doesnt beat properly and is inefficient and you can get palpitations.  Well I know what has been happening lately isnt palpitations because it seems to be beating rapidly all the time and I am very aware of it.  Then on Monday night I was having a bath and I was washing under my left arm and it was really painful so I had a good feel around the armpit and boob and found a bloody lump!!! Its on the left side between my breast and armpit.  So I went to the GP who said she too could feel a 1cm lump but that she thought it was just an active lymph node!! You dont say?? But where is my cancer?? In my lymph nodes...correct.  She said she felt I should 'tell them in oncology' but she prescribed me some cream to rub into the lump to make it go away.  Then she checked my heart and said my pulse was 100 but my BP was ok and she wanted me to have a blood test to rule out the basics eg anaemia.  Well when I got home I phoned my CNS and she said she would sort me out.  I have an appointment to see an oncologist tomorrow to 'check me over' as she feels it could be the Herceptin causing the heart problem and I have an appointment with Mr Kumar at the breast clinic on the 19th October.  Sorted.

Ps has anyone ever had a blood test and after they have pressed on it, had a plaster put on and chatted to the nurse...moved your arm and blood squirts out from under the plaster??? no?? Well I have lol xx

  • Hi Chrissi    heres hoping its just a swollen node and nothing more sinister and as you are strong I am sure the old ticker will be ok.

cannot beat the squirting blood but in a similar vein, when I was in for the twisted bowel the junior doc came to tak bloods. he proudly told me that he had allowed the other docs to practice on him a couple of times so he knew how patients would feel.

Still don't know how he did it but they use the vac syringes and somehow he did not get the blood into the bottle it came squirting out down my arm.

we just laughed not a lot else you could do.

let us know how you get on

    Hi Chrissie,

Usually the sinister lumps are the ones that don't hurt, so heres hoping it is nothing serious.

Medication can affect the heartbeat so maybe something just needs adjusting and then your ticker will settle down. I am glad that you sound quite upbeat and the blood squirting is rather impressive!

Best of luck with your appointments.

                         Take care,

                             Love lizzie xx

    Hi Chrissi

It is easy to look on the dark side isn't it?  I had glands up in my throat and tightness when I was breathing last week. With all my secondaries I feared the worst but it turned out to be a cold that I was fighting off. It worried me more because there was no pain in throat! My white cells must be working!  Anyway when I went to chemo unit to be checked I had the good news about my CT scan showing improvements.  So I am just hoping that you will have equally good news at your appointment! Thinking of you xx
