chipies new blog

1 minute read time.

my name is chipie and im a full time carer to my husband . He has advanced cancer and is under our G.P only we have no contact with the hospital at all as they say there is nothing more they can do for him . his cancer is very rare its called pseudomyxoma peritoni and they cannot operate on him as it was found to late . we have been to basingstoke where they done a c.t scan and found out that it was much further along than they was lead to belive by our local hospital they operated on him and thats when they found out how bad he was . the care that he recieved in there was superb and we was very sorry that phil would not recieve this much care when he got home .

I look after phil on my own and it is extemly tiring I have had marie curie nurses in but phil didnt like having differant people in all the time (hes a very private person) and couldnt handle having differant nurses coming in we have one disrict nurse who comes in to change phils dressings as we have known her since the begining . they sent various other nurses in but phil always sent them away and said its ok and i would change his dressings for him this is quite hard work as it normally takes two of  us to move him .

I have read lots of post on the site and see that theres a lot of people like me out there . I get very tired and frustrated  and very often think why is this happening to us we are only in our 50s and it just seems so wrong .

    Hello Chipie

I am so sorry this is happening to you, but it is happening.  If you're going to tak care of your husband through this time you need help and support.  Can you explain this to your husband?  Would he allow the Marie Curie nurses to try again?  Your social services department might - it's very much might - give you funding for respite, which could mean someone coming in to clean and shop.  The Marie Curie nurses might come just to talk to you and give you some support.

Please try to get some help somewhere.  You are going through a horrible dreadful experience but there is help.

    Thinking of you.

thank you all so much for your wonderful encouraging words and advice . I have contacted our macmillian nurse and she is trying to find out some more info for us, also phoned the docters as well and they said that I could have some antidepresants if I wanted I said no thank you as have had a bad experiance with them but on the up side Im going to go to counserlin and I think that will help me and in the long run phil also as Im told it will help me be less stressed . Phil tends to doze on and off during the course of day many due to the amount of fentynal patches the big man has on him (9) which Im told is the most phils mac nurse has ever known. Well once again THANK YOU EVERYONE this site is like having a big family xx  may you all have a happy peaceful day xxxx
