Anyone tried acupuncture?

Less than one minute read time.
I have been trying acupuncture to help with the nausea and sickness after chemo and i'm wondering if anyone else has tried it too? I was a bit scepticle about trying it,( but have on recommendation from someone else who had succuss with it). I tried it and much to my surprise have had no sickness since. I go for my 4/6 chemo next week and I even have my appetite back!... so I'll keep it up at least until I finish chemo..(just in case it is working!!) lots of luv...Carolyn :)

It's always good to have hands on experience of alternative therapies.  If it works, then it is a good idea.

In a talk by an acupuncturist, he said he had been training for 12 years, and would we prefer someone who had trained for 12 years or a GP who had done a 6 week course?

I will ask today about homeopathy.  I am going for a lunch with homeopathic practitioners.  I didn't use their services when I was on chemo, but if they can recommend something off the shelf so to speak, I'll pass it on.

    Good for you.

Su-jok acupuncture would have worked even better in general.

As it can operate by more remote energy paths i.e. on forearm, palm, fingers etc, like it uses projections of the whole body on a single finger, effects are much faster.

Hi Carolyn - I was so glad to read that acupuncture had helped in your fight with nausea. I have friends who have had acupuncture for various health problems, and all of them came back with positive stories. I've never tried it, due to having an absolute "phobia" to the sight of any kinda needle - especially the ones that are aimed at me personally LOL. So, I'm delighted for you and wish you continued success; with love from "cowardy custard"  kate xxxx

I was recommended something called Nux, Maybe it was nux vomica.  I would say that homeopathy would be a good idea for serious side effects.  Go to a proper practitioner though.  If you google Homeopathy (in UK) you should get a website for the Society of Homeopaths, and you can find some local practitioners.  If Birmingham is any example, they often form themselves into local groups and share good practice.

How can you find a suk jok practitioner?  Can you explain where it fits in with the other acupuncture disciplines?

hi , thanx everyone for your replies about the acupunture treatment.

Ruthless, I would probably google to try and find a suk jok (indian acupunture) practitioner close to you, (I'm in Australia) so you could maybe try that?

I am having japanese acupunture (don't know the specific name) but it is along the lines of traditonal chinese acupunture, only a bit more refined (apparently). It is working well for me, I even have my appetite back! After losing so much weight after my surgery, I now have put the weight back on and will have to start to watch what i eat!!

I don't know much about acupunture, only what I have read on the internet really, or word of mouth from those who have tried it, so sorry, i'm not much help to you on that.

    best wishes...luv Carolyn
