Hi I'm new to the site, interested in contacting anyone who has started chemo for breast cancer

Less than one minute read time.
Hi, underwent full mastectomy 4 weeks ago without reconstruction. Have been doing my exercises religiously since and my arm is improving but I seem to have hit a wall with my progress - make a poor ballerina!!. I have my appointment with the Med Oncologist on 3 Nov and am feeling a litle apprehensive about the next 7-9 months of chemo and then radiotherapy. If you have been or are going through this, I would love to hear from you. Have been positive so far but feel this is the long haul.

Thanks for this, waiting to see what cocktail of chemicals I am going to have.  I decided it wasn't worth invesitgating the different types till I knew my options. I'm trying not to think to far ahead and have decided that my imagination will work overtime and its not worth worrying about what I don't yet know.

We will all get through it with the great support from each other. I hope your treatment settles down and you have more good days than bad.

    Take care

    Hi Carol

Am just behind you with treatment and would like to know how you are coping? I have been really good with operation and actually pleased with result but will be starting chemo in next week or so and like you not very positive about the long haul. Went and bought some wigs with my daughter last week and actually look better than my hair! Have been told should start to see normality around next June which seems so far away. Never quite sure how i am going to feel each day sometimes OK sometimes very low sure you are propbably the same. Let me know how you are getting on.

    Hi Lianne

Nice to hear from you, my first chemo went really well - in fact I was surprised at how problem free it was. I had very minor side effects, I felt queasy but it was more like an unsettled tummy.  Was tired/couldn't be bothered days 3 to 5 - but I probably contributed to that because I was rushing around. I felt better once I started on the chemo journey, 1 down 7 to go!

I am using a cold cap, its not too bad so haven't lost any hair on my head - yet, I am expecting it to thin.  Saw the oncologist today and everyting is fine for dose two on Wed.

What chemotherapy will you be on?  I'm on E-CMF.

Take care and let me know how you get on.

    Best wishes

    Hi Carol

Hope you are still doing well. I will find out today if my first course of chemo will start next Tuesday which will depend on my back which still keeps puffing up a bit. I am on FEC and I was told that the coldcap probably wouldnt work with the drugs I will be having so have already been wig trying on with my daughter and we were pleasantly surprised with the results - in fact they are actually better than our own hair! Had a grosham line put in this week as I am still needle phobic would you believe so my drugs will be administered through the line and not my arm. Hoping to stay well enough to be able to take my daughter to school in the mornings but we will see.
