Tweeting our way through 2014

2 minute read time.

Our campaigns twitter account has grown from strength to strength this year so I’ve had a look back on the highlights of a year of campaigning tweets.

Macmillan campaigns kicks off 2014 by releasing some good news stats.

February brings an important camapigns success for terminally ill claimants of Personal Indepedence Payment, as the Department for Work and Pensions cut waiting times.

In March, we were asking people to email their MP in support of our carers’ campaign, Cancer – Do You Care?

Shortly after the government announces it will strengthen the Care Bill. The Bill becomes law later in 2014.

April brings the news that more people are living with and beyond cancer.  Macmillan is making sure this growing number of people gets the support they need.

In May, our campaigning activity is looking at cutting the coast of cancer as Macmillan launches a new report looking at how banks can support people affected by cancer.

This month is Carers’ Week, as we ask supporters to take action to tackle the carers’ crisis.

Over the summer we call on politcians to provide free social care at the end of life. This will help more people to be able to spend their precious final days in a familiar place of their choosing.

In July we held an event at Parliament calling for all cancer patients to be treated with the highest levels of dignity and respect, and for staff to be supported to deliver this.

In August the campaigns team were out and about calling on the government to ensure survival rates match the best in Europe.

September brings Macmillan’s famous World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. And this year for the first time we signed up supporters to host campaign coffee mornings to help promote our General Election activity.

Furthering our work to support cancer carers’, in October Macmillan launches a new report, Cancer – Do you care.

November marks six months to the 2015 General Election and the launch of our Cancer: Time to Choose campaign.

As the year draws to a close, we are delighted to hear NHS England has committed to a new national strategy and set of ambitions for cancer services in England to improve cancer care.
