Cancer: Time to choose
Last Friday marked the public launch of our General Election campaign Cancer:Time to Choose, and six months to the 2015 general election. It was a day packed with activities for both Macmillan staff and campaigners.
To coincide with the launch, Macmillan revealed that by the end of 2016, 1,000 people per day will be diagnosed with cancer. Our General Election campaign is striving to make cancer an election priority by asking the next government to commit to three calls in their parties manifesto:
1) The next government should commit to delivering cancer outcomes that match the best in Europe by the end of the next Parliament
2) The next government should ensure all patients, including those with cancer, are treated with the highest levels of dignity and respect and that all staff are supported to deliver this ambition
3) The next government should commit to delivering free social care for people at the end of their life, supporting them to spend their final weeks and days in a place of their choice
Hopefully you may have seen some of our launch activities on the Macmillan Facebook and Twitter accounts. Or visited our new website, Cancer: Time to choose,- where you can snap your support for the campaign. By uploading a photo to the website you can show all political parties why Macmillan’s campaign is so important to you.
Jasbinder was diagnosed with breast cancer. She took part in the snap your support activity for the campaign launch on Friday.
‘I have a strong history of cancer in my family – all the women on my mother’s side died as a consequence of getting cancer. That’s why I’m so passionate about making sure cancer care is an election priority for all political parties.’
We have launched our General Election campaign action to raise awareness of the amount of people affected by cancer every day, and to demonstrate that our three calls are vital to helping people with cancer
Macmillan’s General Election campaign runs until May 2015. Join us and sign up to be an e-campaigner to ensure no one faces cancer alone.
