Meet the Macmillan policy team

1 minute read time.

As the policy team have started blogging more on the Community, we wanted to introduce ourselves, and tell you a bit more about what we do...

So what do we do?

We look at the problems facing people affected by cancer, and identify what Government, the NHS or other organisations could do to resolve these problems.

Sometimes this means demanding a change in the law.  Sometimes we want the Government to change the policy which shapes public services in the UK.

To identify these issues and find solutions, we

  • seek the views of people affected by cancer, about the issues that matter to them.
  • analyse research
  • examine proposed policy changes
  • talk to other organisations including the Government to understand the problems and to come up with solutions
  • work with other teams across Macmillan to present ideas and solutions to MPs and other parties.
  • work with media and PR to raise awareness

What do we want to change?

Many people are still dying in hospital when they want to die at home.

The cost of cancer is something we feel the government needs to stand up and take action on.

The NHS is changing and we need to ensure cancer remains a priority.

We want to make sure that the issues which matter to you are given due attention at a national and local level.

We also like to make lots of noise on twitter. Follow the Mac policy team for news, views, and what we’re working on to improve cancer care, and outcomes.

Tea or coffee?

Our team has a strong view on everything. There’s a strong contingent who prefer proper coffee, and some of us prefer a good cup of builders. Whatever the preference, we all take turns to do a run; caffeine is vital for keeping our minds whirring!
