This week campaigners presented a 127 metre woolly scarf to
the fuel poverty minister Greg Barker as part of Macmillan’s Infi-Knit campaign to freeze out fuel poverty
for people with cancer.
The scarf petition called for more help so that people with cancer can keep warm without the worry. Over 5,000 people took action helping to make our digitally knit scarf 127 metres long.
On receiving the
scarf, Gregg Barker commented, “Macmillan Cancer Support is doing
tremendous work in bringing the issues that people affected by cancer are facing
to the attention of me and my colleagues in government.”
Campaigners Joy Beddows and Mary Clarke, who presented the
petition to Greg Barker, were pleased with the minister's response.
Joy said, 'It was great to meet the minister, who took our
concerns seriously. When my husband Dennis was being treated for cancer he
really suffered from the cold. We had to have our heating on all the time. Our
bills went through the roof and worrying about how we were going to pay them
was the last thing we needed.'
