As General Election fever sweeps the nation with less than a week to go, here at Macmillan we have returned to the office following our Time to Choose Campaign Road Show.

We held Cake with Candidates events in Watford, Cambridge, Loughborough, Bristol and Brighton where we were joined by Macmillan professionals, people affected by cancer and local parliamentary candidates to discuss the importance of improving cancer care. It was great for politicians to hear directly from their constituents about their experiences of cancer and the issues that are important to them. We saw amazing turnout from prospective candidates, showing that they appreciate the work and goals of Macmillan and are listening to our supporters.

Macmillan Staff outside Time to Choose busOur Campaign bus also visited these same areas to rally wider support for our Time to Choose campaign. We spoke to hundreds of Macmillan supporters out on the streets who pledged their support to the campaign and joined us to make sure that no one faces cancer alone. Jess Wilson, who volunteered with the bus in Cambridge said, “I really enjoyed the Campaign Road Show, it was really interesting talking to the general public and listening to their views.”

It was great that so many Parliamentary Candidates engage with and discuss our campaign calls and, as always, the support from Macmillan campaigners and the public was fantastic. We have now seen an incredible 21,200 campaign actions on the website – thank you!

This election is our best chance to make sure everyone receives the best possible care and support, and there’s still time to join the campaign. No one should face cancer alone so please join us to demand:

  • Earlier diagnosis and better support after treatment to improve outcomes so they match the best in Europe.
  • Health services that protect the dignity of patients, while giving staff the support they need to do this.
  • The free social care people need to fulfil their wish to die at home if they choose.

It's not too late to get involved. Email your candidate your today - and don’t forget to vote on May 7!
