    Hi Buzzie,

Just missed you in chat, sorry I don't know too much about your husbands cancer but this site is great and you will find that someone in the same position or someone who knows more will reply. There are specific forums for different types os cancer on the left of the page that might help, but this is the place to be if you want to sound off the support is fantastic, feel free to pm me anytime. Hope you get some answers.

Thanks Terri - you're very kind.

I am hoping that there might be someone out there who has been in the same position.  I feel it is an uphill battle to get anything done with the medics.

  • Hi Buzzie

I’m so sorry that you find yourself here and I know what you’re going through as I’ve listened to many accounts of oesophageal cancer through all its stages over the last couple of years, as well as having suffered from it myself.  It’s not uncommon that this particular cancer quickly wears down the carers as it is so traumatic from the onset when the patient presents with dysphagia and then eventually can’t eat at all.  There are lots of us over on the gullet (oesophagus group), both carers and patients at various stages, so I’m sure you will find someone there in a similar situation

As for treatments such as photodynamic therapy, I know this is widely available in Europe as normal procedure and is now being used in some PCTs in the UK, so it might be worth checking this out in Leeds.  You may have seen this link before about PDT:

    www.cancerhelp.org.uk/.../photodynamic-therapy-for-advanced-oesophageal-cancer

Also NICE have issued guidelines and finding from clinical trials:

I do hope that you find the support you need here in our group. Also, it might be helpful to give the Oesophgeal Patients Association a call as they hold group meetings in areas all over the UK, so I would imagine that Leeds would have such a group.

Remember that you are important too, so take good care, slow your mind down and take one small step at a time.

    Good luck and best wishes

    Crystal xx
