Drink to Our Hero

Less than one minute read time.

Jonathan died this morning at 10.30 am.

Because he never thought he was going to die - or not for another thirty years, as he frequently pointed out  - we never discussed funerals.  He did say, however, that he wished he had thought of Picasso's last words first which reputedly went something like this:  'Drink for me friends, for I will drink no more.'

So, raise a glass to Our Hero, who really was the perfect, gentle knight and loved by all.

 Jonathan Watson Humphrey, 1957 - 2010.

Thank you for your kind messages - I am really so grateful.  You have all been such a huge support  - to us both, in different ways.  Jonathan used to get 'edited highlights' from the blog and I often included some of your responses which ranged from the hilarious to the deeply compassionate.

As you can imagine, I am completely heartbroken.

Lots of love to you all.  xxx

I can't believe its really happened. I feel so terribly sad for you.

He was a real fighter and I was keeping my fingers crossed your story would be different and have a happy ending.

He will always be with you

    Hello Julia

Thank you for that .  Wonderful fighters, both our husbands.  How I longed for a happy ending too, although I knew that you and I, and our darling husbands, were travelling on parallel paths towards the same inevitable ending.

I  take some comfort from the fact that Jonathan never imagined the end.

Thank you again Julia, my fellow traveller.

I hope all is as well as it can be with you.

So sorry to hear your awful news. I know you are very proud of your beloved husband. You must also allow yourself to feel immensely proud of yourself in the way you have cared for him - and all those here - for so long.

Pablo & I have drunk a toast to the two of you.

    Deepest sympathy,

    Liz xx
