Surgeons are no trouble.  Just make sure they have something helpful to say.  Even if they don't plan to operate until you have had chemo.  Make sure you have the next level of treatment promised.  Try and get a date out of them as well.

Take a list with you and write down what they say.

Take someone with you, someone assertive with their head screwed on well.  Union rep,  Neighbour?  Relative.

This could be make or break, so concentrate.  Write down everything of substance that is said.  Take a voice recorder if neccessary.

All these are suggestions.  Take them all if you need to but don't panic.  If something is said that doesn't seem to make sense, ask them what they mean.

    Good luck

Well done Rose for putting your needs FIRST, lots of us find that hard to do. You keep being a pain if you need to to get the responses you need.  I agree with Rwth, take someone along with you who is not worried about asking questions and getting the answers you need. Although I am a fairly confident and independant person it was still great to have my friend with me so we knew we were BOTH hearing what was being said and could discuss it later to see that we agreed on what we thought we had been told!

Don't be intimidated by the surgeon, he still has to pull his pants on in the morning like the rest of us lol.

Good luck, I will be thinking of you tomorrow.

    Take care

  • Hi Rose,

Following on from Phoenix has just said - don't be intimidated by the surgeon - he is working for YOU!  You are his patient, not his house-maid. And whilst Phoenix is too much of a lady to mention it, I'm not - when he's being over-bearing or superior - imagine him on the loo!

    Go girl!

You go Girl!  Well Done!  Remember, "Worrying is praying for what you DON'T want!"  So mock up in your mind how you want it to go, make it very clear, all of positive nature and then let it go!  Good luck Rose, will be on pins and needles to hear.  Keep us posted.  I'll be hopefully in the air tomorrow heading home to California, but perhaps I'll be able to catch you when I'm in between flights.  Know that I'm thinking of you.  Best, Lori
